Oxygen Utilization Measurement/Control
Oxygen concentration measurements in the gas from the top of the heap determine the oxygen utilization of the heap for the prevailing aeration setpoint. If the oxygen utilization is too low, then aeration rates are decreased, and vice versa. Less air used to achieve the stoichiometric needs of the oxidation reactions corresponds to less heat loss from the heap.
